Maurice F. Strong[莫里斯?斯特朗]是世界上最有影响力的人物之一。他现任联合国副秘书长和安南秘书长特别顾问，曾8次担任联合国副秘书长；他所担任的职务还包括联合国和平大学校董会主席，地球委员会基金会理事长，世界经济论坛基金会董事长，美国人道促进会会长，Zenon环境有限公司董事长，丰田汽车株士国际顾问委员会成员，西图集团国际顾问委员会主席。他是中国国家环境保护总局局长国际事务顾问。
莫里斯斯特朗先生生于加拿大，定居多伦多，在政府、国际机构和私营部门一直担任着重要的职务。1970年11月到1972年12月间，斯特朗先生担任过联合国人类环境大会的秘书长，作为1972年联合国人类环境大会的秘书长，莫里斯?斯特朗先生成功地将全球环境问题第一次正式提到国际议事日程上来，此次斯德哥尔摩会议成为了著名的第一届地球峰会。随后莫里斯?斯特朗先生成为联合国环境开发署（UNEP）的首任执行官（1973年1月至1975年12月）。他之后被任命为加拿大国家石油公司的总裁、主席和首席执行官。他也担任过加拿大电力公司总裁，加拿大国际开发署（CIDA）的首任总裁，加拿大开发投资公司的主席和国际开发研究中心（IDCR）在加拿大的理事长。
斯特朗先生是1992年联合国环境和发展大会地球峰会的秘书长并同时兼任联合国的副秘书长。1992年里约热内卢召开的地球峰会上，斯特朗先生成功地推动了由发达国家政府出资帮助解决发展中国家环境问题的计划。使发达国家拿出总共60亿美金以备解决在本世纪内发展中国家因工业污染而造成的环境问题。
斯特朗先生从1992年12月至1995年12月担任北美最大的公共事业公司--安大略水电集团（Ontario-Hydro）的首席执行官。1995年6月被任命为世界银行总裁的高级顾问。
斯特斯特朗先生曾被授予许多奖项和荣誉，包括加拿大勋章（Order of Canada）,瑞典皇家北极星勋章（Swedish Royal Order of the Polar Star）、美国国家科学院公共福利奖章、巴西国家南十字座勋爵士，并获得了Tyler（泰勒）环境奖章联合国环境署金奖、日本蓝色星球奖以及53个荣誉博士学位。他是英国皇家科学院，加拿大皇家科学院和加拿大皇家建筑科学院的研究员。
斯特斯特朗先生对许多支持非政府组织的基金会有很大的影响力，并参与很多国际著名的非政府组织的活动。他目前是国际自然保护同盟（IUCN）；世界自然基金会（WWF）；世界资源研究所（WRI）理事会成员。此三大非政府组织从1970年起就在全球环境问题的国际合作上起着很大的作用。斯特朗先生还在其他一些公用事业组织中担任理事。
Maurice Strong, a Canadian, was born and educated in Canada. He has been working at senior levels for over 30 years in business, government and international organizations. Mr. Strong has long-standing ties with China, including being the founder and first Co-Chair of the Canada-China Business Council.
Current appointments include: Under Secretary General and Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations; President of the Council of the University for Peace (headquartered in Costa Rica); advisor on International matters to Minister, State Environmental Protection Agency of China; Chairman, International Advisory Board, CH2M HILL Companies; Chairman of the Earth Council Foundation; Director, World Economic Forum Foundation; Humane Society of the United States; Zenon Environmental Inc.; Member, International Advisory Board, Toyota Motor Corporation.
Some of Mr. Strong’s past appointments include: Senior Advisor to the President World Bank and member of management committee; Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, ontario Hydro; Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (Earth Summit); First Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme; first President of the Canadian International Development Agency and Deputy Minister, Foreign Affairs; Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (1972); Chairman of the Stockholm Environment Institute; Member and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the United Nations Foundation; Chairman of the World Resources Institute; Member, International Advisory Board, Federation of Korean Industries; Chairman, Executive Bureau World Conservation Union (IUCN); Trustee, Rockefeller Foundation; President, Power Corporation of Canada; Chairman and President, Petro Canada; Chairman, Canada Development Investment Corporation; Vice Chairman, Tosco Corporation; Vice Chairman, World Wildlife Fund International.
Mr. Strong is a Member of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada. Honours he has received include Companion of the Order of Canada, the Swedish Royal Order of the Polar Star, the Brazilian National Order of the Southern Cross, Tyler Environmental Prize, Blue Planet Prize. He has been awarded 53 honorary doctorate degrees.
